Photography
If a road in your life has not take a completely unexpected turn, you have not lived. The question is what to do with the new path? And therein lies the answer. You cannot go back, the past becomes untouchable. You can only go forward, however that presents.
Why am I an artist? Besides an innate desire of expression, and beyond a simple pat answer, the truth is I enjoy photography because it is an outlet. Photography is a medium in which I can take photographs and show something I perceive is memorable or beautiful. Through the sometimes ugly, painful, and terrible things in life it helps to look and see something appealing. Like music, art often has the ability to touch something in our core being. I sought the positive expression photography gave me and several years later still find myself enjoying it immensely.
I started photography as an unintended hobby during a very difficult time in my life. Somehow going outdoors and coming back with photographs I perceived to be noteworthy was akin to finding gold in the river, or diamonds in the mine. Photography helped me to see a better part of life and living. To document images and moments in my environment I felt were worth sharing. To show others something beautiful too.
When you find yourself on an unintended road riddled with potholes and rocks in all its unsightly, unpaved hardship, look around. If there are wildflowers, gather them. If there is nice weather, enjoy it. Do not run too fast, blurring the journey. Instead, find ways of gathering what good there is to be found. I hope my photographs show a little of the attractive and lovely to be found in this world. The good I have found for myself and others.
