AI

According to data it took photography 150 years to reach the same amount of images it has taken artificial intelligence to create in less than two years. Many believe using AI is the future of photography. I do not.

If I used artificial intelligence to create an image, my title of photographer would be diminished. The definition of a photographer is someone who takes photographs using a camera. Is this a debatable subject? Likely. Many competitions I enter have entire stances around using AI or different categories of submission that separate the AI versus non-AI users.

Might I use artificial intelligence to sort images? Sure. Might I remove something from the image? Maybe. Would I add an object to the image? No. All of these are preferences and viewpoints formulated by me in a world using AI.

There was a time when many painters felt threatened by the invention of the camera. Many photographers feel threatened by the invention of AI creating images. I believe photographs created without artificial intelligence will have a place in the art community, just like paintings do.
